The principles behind the setting up of Mahua were (initially) to offer primarily Bengali theatre audiences and filmgoers’ consistent, high quality, cultural, artistic and entertainment choices and experiences. Much of our earlier work was delivered in Bengali with English subtitles.
 
Our research has shown that although there was clearly an eager and demanding audience for creative output with its roots in traditional and contemporary Bengali culture, very little of significant quality was being produced in the UK or imported from abroad. Since 2008 we have undertaken projects and productions we believe have met audience’s expectations for quality and potentially broadened audiences for creative output emanating from our cultural background and influences.
